After school I went into construction. My stepdad was a bricklayer and it was really good money for my age - 15 or 16 years old. I had no GCSE's so it kind of suited.
After about 5 years in construction, being a brick layer, I was severely bored. I was on a job and it was raining, grey, cloudy and cold. I packed my tools up and said to the guy in charge that I was leaving. He asked where I was going and I said Australia, I've had enough of England! They laughed and said I needed a Visa... so I applied for the Visa that day and 3 weeks later I was in Australia!
I went back packing around Australia and Thailand and after 6 months I settled in Sydney and ended up staying there for about 3 years. I got a job brick laying in Stdney and the money was really good. I met some incredible people who are still good friends and I had some of the best times of my life over there. After a while a lot of the people had left or gone home so I went to Darwin with someone I knew from England who had just arrived in Australia.
I hated Darwin because it just wasnt the same as Sydney and I didn't make the friends like I had in Sydney. One day I woke up hungover and thought, that's it I'm done. I went to a travel agent and said I want to go back to England asap. He said there was a flight the next day so I booked it. I hadn't realised I had to go from Darwin to Sydney, Sydney to Singapore, Singapore to Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi to London and it took me 48 hours from first getting on the plane to getting off in London!!
It was a big adjustment period coming home and really difficult to get back into the normal, mundane 'nothings new' type of life again. I was pretty bored again so I decided to set up my own brick laying company which did really well and that's how I earnt the money to pay my half of Chelsea.
After around 5 years of running Royal County Brickwork, once again, I needed a little bit more. You could say I have an adventurous personality! After meeting Faye and she suggested we go back packing, I showed her some videos of some of the sailing blogs I followed and we settled on the idea of buying a sail boat and sailing off into the sunset!
