Bloscon was a mix of emotions for us! We had a boat hit us which caused us quite a bit of a hold up on our trip so it left a sour taste but it is a nice marina. After reporting the accident to the marina staff they said unfortunately it happens all the time and Bloscon is known for having an accident a week - beware!
Location-wise it’s ok. Bloscon marina is actually in an industrial estate like place with the ferry terminal right next door so it’s not in the best position for exploring but the town is about a 15 minute walk away which has a few nice restaurants and bars. The marina does have its own bar/restaurant which is lovely and serves amazing food. It’s like a steak house type restaurant - we had a burger and it genuinely was the best burger we’ve ever had! There is also a small chandlery on site selling the general basics.
Getting into Bloscon we found was quite easy but we have heard it can be bad with the tide. There are 2 entrances, one at each end of the marina, however the main one is the one we had to come in as the other is for small boats as it gets very shallow. Because of the two entrances, the tide can whizz through and cause a few problems when mooring, but as I say we didn’t experience this. The finger pontoons are half length ones though so it’s not as easy jumping off and tying on compared to full length pontoons.
The staff at Bloscon we’re soooo helpful and spoke excellent English. They actually helped us to book a diver and get our prop cleaned for our next passage 😁 this costs €77 per hour and was much cheaper than the boat lift, which would cost over €300 just for lifting out, then the same again for putting back in!
We didn’t use the toilets or showers so can’t comment but there is electric and water, a refuelling pontoon and the WiFi is really good.
The price for us was €38 per night which isn’t the cheapest nor the most expensive.
Overall if you’re looking for a quick stop over, Bloscon has everything you would need and it’s a nice marina, if you are looking to do a longer stay, we would say find somewhere in a better location with a bit more going on.
